Future Bubblers

Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Music label has announced the recipients of mentoring through its Future Bubblers scheme.

As previously reported, funded by Arts Council England, Future Bubblers is a three year project to provide mentoring and support to a selection of upcoming musicians. Help Musicians UK has now also added a £10,000 bursary to the pot.

“The artists we have selected are a varied spread musically and geographically”, said project lead Amy Frenchum. “They epitomise the values of the Future Bubblers project, which is to find the best in new music, specifically that which falls between the cracks… stylistically speaking”.

She added: “The music industry is a scary place, that is ever changing and it’s hard for a young music maker to understand their place within it, especially if they are making music slightly off-centre and if they are based away from London where it all seems to be going on. Future Bubblers is about creating a network of exciting and innovative music talent and giving them the contacts and opportunities to navigate their way naturally and in a real-life non-jargon way.”

Of the 300 applicants, the nine chosen are (with mentors in brackets):

Congi (Swindle)
Snowy (Sway)
Thru Colours (Anushka’s Max Wheeler)
Yazmin Lacey (Anushka’s Victoria Port)
Three Body Trio (Brownwood MD Simon Goffe)
Medikul (Ninja Tune’s Alex Patchwork)
Kid Katharsis aka Abdus (Earl Zinger)
Revenu (Ninja Tune’s Alex Patchwork)
Munro (LV)

Next year further artists will be sought, with a particular focus on Hull. Further details on the project here.
