Buma/Stemra confirm new CEO
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 24 March 2010
Dutch collecting society Buma/Stemra have confirmed Hein van der Ree is their new CEO. He was put forward for the job back in January, but was approved by the society’s General Assembly this week. Cees Van Rij, currently the organisation’s legal affairs man, was appointed Deputy CEO at the same meeting.
Van der Ree said this: “I am very pleased that the General Assembly has agreed to my appointment. I am looking forward to represent the interests of the 18,000 lyricists, composers and publishers who comprise the membership of Buma/Stemra. With the internet and the creativity in which music is being offered on the web, I see it as a challenge to best serve the interests of creative writers and composers in this rapidly changing digital era”.
Van der Ree will take over from incumbent Cees Vervoord in the chair role on 1 May. Vervoord has headed up the collecting society since 1995.
