Around 80 cars were destroyed when fire spread through a car park at the Boomtown Fair festival on Friday. Organisers offered ticketholders assistance in identifying if their cars had been affected, and then assistance in getting home if that was the case.

“What Boomtown is doing at the moment is making sure that we help anyone who’s affected”, the festival’s Adrian Coombs told the BBC on Saturday. “So we’re laying on internet access, phone lines, making sure owners can contact their insurance companies and facilitating people’s transport home when the festival finishes”.

Yesterday, organisers posted information on leaving the site to its website, including a note stressing that “in light of the extremely hot and dry conditions we’ve had throughout the weekend, it is very important that you do not smoke in car parks and please ensure your engines are turned off whilst stationary”.

Work to remove the burnt out cars will begin tomorrow evening. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
