Cash Money signs up with Apple Music for documentary project
By Chris Cooke | Published on Wednesday 17 August 2016
We all know how much Apple loves cash money, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the tech giant has signed a deal to do something special with Cash Money Records.
The something special is seemingly a one-off documentary about the Universal imprint and its co-founder Birdman. Whether that will cover the label’s high profile legal battle with Tidal-fan Lil Wayne remains to be seen. Though we’re guessing Cash Money’s biggest act of the moment – Apple Music ally Drake – is more likely to make an appearance.
The deal will presumably give Apple exclusive access to the documentary. While both Apple and Tidal have been busy securing exclusives around new albums by top-tier artists, some reckon that the streaming services would be better off commissioning original projects of this kind, if exclusive content is to remain a way that platforms differentiate themselves in the market place.
