Chart update – w/c 02 Aug 2010

By | Published on Monday 2 August 2010

This week’s number one single is an all time low. Well, it’s ‘All Time Low’ by fresh new boyband The Wanted who, despite apparently being hilariously shambolic when they performed at the Arquiva Commercial Radio Awards in June, seem to have picked up enough support from radio folks to stumble straight to the top of the chart.

As well as that, the top ten is bulging with new entries this week. In at number three is the debut solo single from Gym Class Heroes frontman (and former Katy Perry fiancé) Travie McCoy, ‘Billionaire’, while at five is Flo Rida with ‘Club Can’t Handle Me’, seven is ‘One (Your Name)’ by Swedish House Mafia, and at number ten is the brilliant ‘I Need Air’ by Magnetic Man. So that’s nice. And with all that excitement up top, there’s not one new entry outside the top ten this week.

Over in the album chart, Tom Jones made a strong bid for the top, but Eminem managed to stay there for yet another week. Tom did make it to number two, though. His highest chart position for eight years and the fifth top three of his career. Also new in the top ten is Avenged Sevenfold with ‘Nightmare’, while the only other new entry this week is Jedward with ‘Planet Jedward’ at seventeen.

There are a handful of re-entries lower down the chart. Drake is back in at 29 with ‘Thank Me Later’ (up from 46), Pixie Lott’s ‘Turn It Up’ is at 30 (up from 42), Biffy Clyro continue their post-Mercury nomination climb with ‘Revelations’ jumping from 48 to 34, and ‘Lights’ by Ellie Goulding move ten places from 47 to 37.

The charts are compiled by Tom Jones, before the Official Charts Company notice and have to do it all again properly.
