Childish Gambino: “Someone buy me out of this contract”
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 16 April 2014
Childish Gambino has become the latest musician to badmouth their label on Twitter, asking other labels that have previously shown an interest to take him off Glassnote Records’ hands in the US.
The rant was seemingly sparked by the handling of the release of a new video for his track ‘Sweatshop’ and a tour blog.
Gambino wrote: “So this ‘Sweatpants’ video and blog was important to us and it wasn’t handled correctly. We were told a lot of things were gonna happen and they were all lies. So I’m done. Someone buy me out of this contract. A lot of people came around after our first week sales. All those people are welcome now. Def Jam, Atlantic, whatever”.
Perhaps not immediately ingratiating himself to those labels, he continued: “I don’t like record companies, but I’m not having another project go through this. I said, ‘I know how the internet works though’. My record company laughed on the phone and said, ‘Oh really?'”
Finally he wrote: “Don’t lie to me. I know I’m not loud, or outrageous, or a white girl with a big ass, but I’m fuckin honest. My team is honest. You’re not on my team if you’re not honest. Don’t lie to me”.
While you wait for someone to buy him out of his contract, you can watch the video for ‘Sweatshop’ here:
