Independent publisher Chrysalis last week announced it had acquired Irish music publisher First State Media Group, which operates the S1 Songs and State One Music companies and controls a 45,000 song catalogue including the work of Sheryl Crow and songs originally published by Dreamworks and Wind-Up.

Songs in the catalogue include Crow’s ‘Everyday Is A Winding Road’, Evanescence’s ‘Bring Me To Life’, and pop classics like ‘Leaving On A Jetplane’ and ‘Disco Inferno’.

Chrysalis boss Jeremy Lascelles told reporters: “We have been looking at a number of catalogues in recent months and it is great to secure a portfolio containing so many classic songs from the past 50 years, including some of my all time personal favourites. I’m thrilled at the prospect of managing these songs under the Chrysalis banner and of seizing opportunities to use them across a wide range of platforms”.

Chrysalis said it would look to acquire a number of catalogues this year when releasing its financial results in February. It is thought they are sitting on a £32 million cash reserve, of which £11 million has gone of the First State purchase.
