CMU Insights: Watch the CMU@IVW on-demand
By CMU Editorial | Published on Wednesday 3 February 2021
Last week CMU presented three panel discussions as part of Independent Venue Week. Livestreamed across three days, they looked at the impact of COVID on the live music sector and the independent venue community, the future of that sector and that community, and the rise of live streaming and how to make streamed shows as accessible as possible.
You can now watch each of the panels on-demand…
THE GRASSROOTS LIVE MUSIC ECOSYSTEM
This panel looks look at how the live music industry has come together during the COVID pandemic, collaborating and lobbying in a much more proactive way. We asked: Can that collaboration continue beyond the current crisis, and how might that benefit the independent music community?
ACCESS TO ARTS AND CULTURE
This panel looks at how the COVID-caused rise of online concerts and performances has, on one level, made live music more accessible – one of the few upsides of the pandemic. However, accessibility challenges remain. The panel considered how artists, promoters and platforms can make livestreaming as accessible as possible for disabled and deaf music-makers and music fans.
THE FUTURE OF THE LIVE COMMUNITY
In this session we considered when the live sector might return to normal post-COVID, and what that return to the norm might look like. We asked how much talent and infrastructure will have been lost by the time live music returns. And also whether livestreaming and other digital innovations will become part of the live music experience long-term.
