Canadian Music Week

A round up of music and music business events happening in the next seven days…

Canadian Music Week. Slightly confusingly kicking off tomorrow and running until Sunday (confusing in that’s definitely not a week by British standards), Canadian Music Week is about to descend on Toronto. Combining showcase festival, conference, tradeshow and various awards ceremonies, plus focuses on Japanese, Korean and Nordic music, this year you can see Rihanna sing and producer Steve Lillyshite speak, amongst others.

David Bowie V&A exhibition. Entitled ‘David Bowie Is’, this exhibition at the V&A museum in London features over 300 items for public display, not least instruments, LP artwork, hand-drawn video storyboards and various iconic stage costumes.

Unsigned Guide tenth anniversary. The Unsigned Guide turns ten on Wednesday. Happy birthday Unsigned Guide. To celebrate there are discounts and prizes to be had for subscribers new and old.

Snoop Lion/Dogg reggae film. A documentary about the making of Snoop Dogg, sorry Lion’s first reggae album with Diplo in Jamaica opens in cinemas this Friday. Entitled ‘Reincarnated’, the album of the same name is due for release next month.

Best of BUG. Another cinema experience, Adam Buxton’s monthly music video night at the BFI Southbank shifts to the Odeon on Leicester Square for one night only tomorrow to run through some of the best videos it’s featured throughout its history.

New releases. Justin Timberlake‘s new album is out this week. More exciting are the new LPs from Marnie Stern and Steve Mason. As well as all that, you can also grab new albums this week from Billy Bragg, Low, Daughter, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Peace and The Virgins.

Gigs and tours. If you’re in Brighton this Wednesday evening, you can catch The Great Escape’s spring launch party at The Green Door Store, featuring performances from Marika Hackman, Drop Out Venus and The Dancers. Then the next night, you can head down to the V&A for you first visit of the week (before you go to the Bowie exhibition on Saturday) to see Napalm Death smash up some ceramics. Not only that, also performing this week are Biffy Clyro, The Gaslight Anthem, Wild Nothing, Wire, The Men, Palma Violets and that Professor Green, who will be playing a very secret Barclaycard-sponsored show.
