Vampire Weekend

Did you all have fun on Record Store Day? Did you buy something nice? Good. Well in that case, I guess what’s coming up this week is listening to records. And what could be better than that? Nothing at all. Although coming up pretty close will be the contents of this week’s CMU Dailies.

Now here’s a round up of music and music business events happening in the next seven days…

Digital Music Trends. This week CMU Editor Andy Malt will be back as a guest on excellent digital music industry podcast Digital Music Trends. The show goes live on Friday and is available via many a digital services in both video and audio form. More details here.

Danielle Perry and Scroobius Pip join Xfm. There’s another influx of new presenters at Xfm this week (if two can be called an influx), with Danielle Perry taking over the evening show Monday to Thursday and Scroobius Pip presenting a brand new hip hop show on Saturday night.

Vampire Weekend (pictured) live stream gig. Vampire Weekend are collaborating with actor Steve Buscemi to present a special show on 28 Apr. Taking place at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom as part of American Express’s ‘AmEx Unstaged’ initiative, and with Buscemi directing, it’ll stream in real time via YouTube, Vevo and amexunstaged.com.

Andy Cato photo exhibition. Groove Armada’s Andy Cato is set to release solo album ‘Times & Places’ through Apollo/R&S on 29 Apr. Featuring work that goes back two decades, tracks on the LP date back as far as 1993 and were recorded in numerous locations. To celebrate his finally managing to get these tracks down on record, Cato will launch it all with a photographic exhibition at The Book Club in Shoreditch, displaying the history and locations in which the album was created. The exhibition will be launched with a private view on 25 Apr, with DJ sets from Cato and Geddes. It will then be open to the public until 25 Jun.

New releases. The wait is over, people. Snoop Dogg’s first reggae album is out. Or should we just say that Snoop Lion‘s debut album is out? Either way, there’s nothing anyone can do about it now. Also unleashed on the world this week are new LPs from Will.i.am, Kid Cudi, Phoenix, Josh Kumra, Frank Turner, Daniel Johnston, Caspa and Lilacs & Champagne. Also available is a new charity compilation released in memory of recently deceased Magnolia Electric Co frontman Jason Molina, with contributions from Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Damien Jurado and Scout Niblett, amongst others.

Gigs and tours. Beyonce is coming! Beyonce is coming! Tidy up a bit, would you? Also playing live this week are Rudimental, Chvrches, Matthew E White, Minus The Bear, Kaiser Cheifs and Melt Yourself Down. Plus, the ever brilliant Ja Ja Ja Nordic showcase night is on this Thursday, headlined by recent CMU approvee Truls.
