Capitol Records

Other notable announcements and developments today…

• Nate Albert, a one time Mighty Mighty Bostone, is shifting from Universal’s Republic Records, where he was SVP A&R, to be Exec VP A&R at the major’s Capitol Records unit in the US. It’s part of a bigger rejig at Capitol US that saw Ashley Newton become President last week, but also about ten people depart the label.

• Hamburg-based digital distribution company Finetunes has announced four recent appointments that, please note, “underlines its ambition to expand and establish business worldwide”. I do hope that’s noted. The hires are Peter Wohelski in the US, Abdullah Geels in the Netherlands, Michael Lambert in the UK and Laura Mikolajczak in France.

• The Last Shadow Puppets have released their first new music since 2008, a song called ‘Bad Habits’. Their second album is due later this year.

• Courtney Barnett has released a new song, called ‘Three Packs A Day’. Three packs of what? Noodles, obviously. She’s also on the latest episode of the ‘Song Exploder’ podcast, deconstructing her song ‘Depreston’.

• Anna Meredith has released another track from her upcoming debut album, ‘Varmints’. This is ‘Taken’. Oh, also, she’ll headline the ICA in London on 29 Mar.

• Joanna Gruesome have announced three live dates in March. They’ll play The Exchange in Bristol on 18 Mar, DIY Space For London on 19 Mar, and The Hope And Ruin in Brighton on 20 Mar.
