CMU’s One Liners: Columbia, Caroline, Tidal, more
By Chris Cooke and Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 2 March 2016
Other notable announcements and developments today…
• Sony Music’s Columbia US label has promoted both Imran Majid and Justin Eshak to the role of SVP of A&R. Previously they were mere VPs of A&R. And in A&R, it’s all about the ‘s’. No one involved was “thrilled”.
• Dave Lombardi is leaving Universal’s Capitol Music Group in the US, where he is currently VP Of Promotion at label services business Caroline. He’s been with Capitol since 2004, when it was an EMI division, of course. Caroline was unavailable for comment. As usual. Who is Caroline?
• Tidal has sacked both its Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Office, so finances and operations aren’t currently being chiefly officered by anyone at the streaming service. Or perhaps they are, the firm says Chris Hart and Nils Juell have exited as it moves more of its team to New York from Oslo. The techies will remain in the Norwegian capital, though.
• Ginger Baker has cancelled all upcoming tour dates after being diagnosed with “serious heart problems”.
• Yumi Zouma’s Sam Perry will release a solo album under the name Zen Mantra on 15 Apr. Listen to ‘Second Skin’ here.
• Jorja Smith has released a video for her brilliant debut single, ‘Blue Lights’.
• PJ Harvey will play the Eden Project’s Eden Sessions on 27 Jun.
