Fader

Other notable announcements and developments today…

• New York-based indie label and magazine offshoot Fader is getting some services from Universal’s label services set-up Caroline, initially on the new Saul Williams album ‘MartyrLoserKing’. Fader co-founder Jon Cohen is “excited” about the tie-up. As am I. Well, more about the new Saul Williams album. I’m not that bothered about Caroline’s involvement. Sorry Caroline.

• Good news for fans of French film producer EuropaCorp renewing its partnership with Universal Music Publishing around its music rights! Yes, if that’s you, this is going to be a great day. The most magnificent Thursday ever. And let’s face it, there’s been a few. But it’s true: French film producer EuropaCorp has renewed its partnership with Universal Music Publishing around its music rights.

• Excited by the news that the US record industry is now including streams in its Gold and Platinum Awards, the German industry has decided to add streaming data into its albums chart. But only from paying services, mind. None of this including YouTube stats nonsense that you get in the States. Crazy Americans.

• Long-time Polydor exec Liz Goodwin has joined Glassnote as MD of the indie’s UK office. Glassnote’s Director Of UK & European Operations Sam Rumney is “DEEPLY THRILLED” about the appointment. Which is taking things to a whole new level.

• The Super Bowl ads are starting to roll in. Drake has redone his ‘Hotline Bling’ video for T-Mobile. It’s basically a rip-off of those old Orange Wednesdays adverts, except with Drake and T-Mobile in it.

• Oh, you want another advert? This one’s got Lil Wayne in.

• Pop-rockers Scandal will release new album ‘Yellow’ through JPU Records on 11 Mar. A documentary made on their first world tour will also be out on 4 Mar. From ‘Yellow’, this is ‘Stamp!’

• Outkast’s Big Boi begins a monthly residency at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas on 6 Feb.

• Wiz Khalifa has confirmed to Hot 97 that he and Kanye West “spoke on the phone” earlier this week, and that it is “all good”.

Peppa Pig listening to Bring Me The Horizon made me laugh.
