X-Factor

Other notable announcements and developments today…

• Sony Legacy has acquired the entire catalogue of singer-songwriter Janis Ian, which spans more than 50 years of music. A series of re-issues are planned, and all fifteen of her albums hit streaming services yesterday.

• Dave Stewart has been announced as the new head of Music Gateway’s advisory board. Who knows what that even means? Not me. “It’s a pleasure”, says Stewart, so that’s nice.

• Want to fix your flagging pop talent TV show? Pretend it’s 2004 all over again I say. Which is presumably why the judging panel on the next series of ‘X-Factor’ will consist of Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell. Oh, and Nicole Scherzinger. And Dermot O’Leary is hosting. Maybe just pretend it’s 2013 all over again, then.

• Gwen Stefani has released a video for ‘Misery’, which you can wallow in here.

• Wretch32 has shared the video for new track ‘Antwi’, released in tribute to manager Richard Antwi, who died in February.

• Slow Club have announced that they will release a new album, ‘One Day All Of This Won’t Matter Anymore’, on 19 Aug. Here’s the video for recent single ‘Ancient Rolling Sea’.

• Rejoice! It is a new video from Gold Panda.

• They Might Be Giants will release a new album, ‘Phone Power’, on 10 Jun. Here’s the single, ‘I Love You For Psychological Reasons’. And while you’re here, check out their cover of Destiny’s Child’s ‘Bill, Bills, Bills’, which also features on the LP.

• EinarIndra has released a new album, ‘Stories’. From it, this is ‘Your Eyes Are Burning’.

• Bell X1 will play Islington Assembly Hall on 11 Nov. Tickets on sale this Friday.

• We mentioned that the deadline to enter this year’s Mercury Prize was coming up recently. It’s possible we gave you the wrong date. Sadly there is no way to check if that’s what happened now, but just to clarify, the deadline is THIS FRIDAY, 3 Jun, at 6pm. Put your records forward here.
