Dave Lee Travis has been refused the opportunity to appeal against an indecent assault conviction last year, a judge saying that there was “no arguable grounds” for him to do so.

As previously reported, Travis was found guilty of assaulting a researcher on the ‘Mrs Merton Show’ in 1995 and given a two year suspended sentence. He was found not guilty of another charge.

According to BBC News, judge Heather Hallett said: “We are driven to the conclusion that there are no arguable grounds of appeal and accordingly the application for leave to appeal must be refused”.

Outside the court, the former radio presenter said: “Obviously I am really, really disappointed – which is probably the understatement of the year. I agree with the law, but I have lost a lot of respect for the law now”.

Prior to his conviction, Travis had been cleared of twelve other sexual offence charges, but was forced to stand retrial on the two other allegations against him, including the one for which he was convicted, upon which the original jury could not reach a conclusion.
