The Great Escape

So, The Great Escape heads into its second day, with gigs and showcases aplenty, plus the CMU Insights-programme convention, which today turns to The Festival Business, New Product Strategies and Global Digital Markets.

And don’t forget that things continue tomorrow with the new mini-conference on creativity and tech, Blueprint, for which a few standalone tickets are still available at £30 – buy yours now! Also taking place tomorrow is the DIY programme for the grass roots music community hosted by CMU Business Editor Chris Cooke, and, of course, the rather exciting Blurred Lines panel, asking if pop has a misogyny problem.

The line-up has just been confirmed for the video dimension of that debate, and it’s gonna make for a very fine debate. Caroline Bottomley from Radar Music Videos will lead a fizzing discussion about trends in music video making and porn, including sexism, feminism and the rise of ‘ethical porn’.

Joining her will be Phil Tidy, a prolific producer who has collaborated with Diane Martel, director of the ‘Blurred Lines’ video; Craig Haynes, content manager for the massive electronic music channel UKF; Jerry Barnett, founder of free speech group ‘Sex And Censorship’; and De La Muerta (aka Deborah Scanlan and Elizabeth Adams), regular directors for Kyla La Grange, Lulu James and Chlöe Howl.

Blurred Lines runs from 11.00am to 3.00pm in The Old Courtroom, with the Video Dimension at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, listen to Cooke’s opening speech from The Great Escape 2014 yesterday morning. Under the title ‘Where We’re At’, he ran through the ten biggest music business stories and ten most interesting stats from the last twelve months. Listen to the speech in full here.
