Eddy Says: Losers, Eat Shit and Waterfilth

Yes, this week’s Eddy Says is all about the three things listed in its title. Which might not sound like too fun a shopping list to the uninitiated, but worry not, it’s all good. And if you’re a listener to Eddy’s Xfm show then you should already have an idea of what’s coming up. If not, don’t worry, just read on and you will be rewarded handsomely.

That title sounds bad, I know, but it’s not. Really, allow me to explain.

It feels weird looking forward to the upcoming Secret Garden Party so much, given how wet this year’s festival season has been so far. I do seem to have been rained on almost incessantly for the entirety of the current British summer. But, as you know, Secret Garden is a special affair whatever the weather. Though, if all this rain is getting you down, let me cheer you up now with some free music and some useful links.

One of the little things I love about the summer festivals season is the new round of remixes that you hear coming out of multiple tents as you meander around, dizzy with cider, or whatever it is that’s making you dizzy while you meander. It’s great to see some of the remixers we champion on The Remix suddenly getting the wider attention they deserve, when one of their reworks becomes one of the tunes of the season. The last time Losers did one of those was a few years ago now. Actually, we did a couple of them, and I’ve just made them downloadable on my SoundCloud profile.

Here’s the Candi Staton mix we did. I still get phone footage, from boat parties in Ibiza or elsewhere, from DJs like The Loose Cannons, kindly reminding us that this still does the business for them. And here’s the Rage Against The Machine one, given away umpteeen times before, but not for a while, so there’s a fresh bunch of you that don’t have this.

Meanwhile, Losers will be warming up for our Secret Garden Party show this Wednesday at 93 Feet East on London’s Brick Lane. It’s out first headline show in London since last Christmas and it’s a big deal for us. We’ll be playing a full headline set, all new songs off the new album, ‘We Shall Never Part’, played with a five piece band, plus one of the cover versions we did for our limited edition tour CD. I won’t tell you which, but there’s a gorgeous Deftones cover on that record and a banging Leftfield one too. The limited edition CDs, each numbered and unique, are available here if you want a listen.

We have a £3 concessions list for this week’s show, so if you’d like to come just let me know on Twitter or via Facebook. Because it’s a midweek gig, we’re starting and ending early, but there’s still a full support bill. Losers are onstage at 9.20pm and the whole thing will finish at 11pm after one of Rednek’s epic Dubstep sets. Full info here. And here’s a video of Rednek dropping a collaboration we just did, called ‘Eat Shit’, that I debuted on the Remix on Friday, and which you can listen to in full here.

Finally, here’s another bit of good news for you. If you missed out on Secret Garden Party tickets when the festival sold out back in April (in record time!), some tickets have now come back from website cancellations so we can get some extra people in. They’ve not made this public yet, and so far have just told a few of us to let our friends know. So that’s what I’m doing here. A lot of us were surprised how quickly the festival sold out this year, but thankfully you can get last minute tickets to the best weekend of the year, by a mile, here.

If you don’t have a ticket, get one while you can, these won’t last long now (especially now I’ve mentioned about the few cancelled tickets being for sale here!). The bill in my Temple Of Boom arena alone is enough to make a grown Xfm Remix listener weep: Jacques Lu Conte, James Lavelle, Krafty Kuts/A Skillz/MC Dynamite, Adam F, Nikki & The Dove, Monsta, Engine Earz Experiment, Ayah Marar, Scroobius Pip, Rack N Ruin, Wilkinson, Mixhell, Adam Freeland’s only gig this year, Mistabishi, High Rankin, True Tiger, Danny Byrd, Caan, Maribou State, Brookes Brothers etc etc. And that’s just one stage!

Oh, and speaking of Engine Earz Experiment, one more thing. Their synths man Prash and I have put together one of those aforementioned summer festival bangers for you. This year it HAD to be Stone Roses, for obvious reasons. ‘Waterfall’ is probably my favourite Roses song, so we’ve revisited it, and given it a gnarly layer of bass and beats. It’s called ‘Waterfilth’, and you can download it here.

So, hopefully I’ll see some of you on Wednesday, and others at my favourite festival in the world. Until then, thanks for listening and I hope these links were useful or entertaining. Maybe both.

Much love,
eddy
x
