Festival line-up update: Field Day, 6 Music Fest, Melt! and more
By Aly Barchi | Published on Wednesday 22 January 2014
So, the Beeb is staging an alternative radio-station spin-off festival this year (alternative to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, that is), in brand new Manchester event the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival. Linked, as you’ve guessed, to indie hub BBC 6 Music, its two-day line-up is fronted by The National and Damon Albarn, with James Blake, Jake Bugg, Wild Beasts, Franz Ferdinand and Haim also down to play live. Unlike Big Weekend, you have to pay for your own tickets, which go on sale this Friday.
In Field Day (which this year is more Field Weekend) news, acts inc SBTRKT, Blood Orange, The Horrors, Courtney Barnett and East India Youth have been tacked to the London festival’s Pixies and Metronomy-headed bill. Which is ace.
Stay tuned for more on all that plus a scorching first line-up edit to Germany’s exclamatory Melt!, and details of additions newly made to Rhythmtree and Westport Music Festival, and a last-minute reminder of the acts on show at Brazil-based MecaFestival…
