Hey, so how did you all enjoy boiling in October? That was weird, huh? I spent much of the last two days amusing myself by kicking through the fallen autumn leaves and worrying about sunburn. Apart from that, I went to one of Noise Of Art’s events at 93 Feet East and enjoyed very much watching the eclectic range of artists on the bill terrifying the casual Friday night crowd. Then on Saturday I saw ‘Hacked’ at Theatre 503 in Battersea, which sees voicemails taken from (willing) volunteers’ mobile phones and used as the inspiration for six short plays. It’s very good and on until Tuesday, so check it out if you can. Also happening this week are these things…

01: Final bids for EMI to be taken this week. According to insiders, who are never wrong about these things, US bank Citigroup has set a deadline of this Wednesday for interested parties to submit their final and best bids for EMI. The bank has been speaking to potential buyers for the major label since at least March, and began accepting formal bids in July. It’s not known exactly how many bidders remain in the race, though we reckon five maybe six. We also think BMG and all three of the other majors are amongst them.

02: Michael Jackson tribute concert. So, I suppose you all saw the TV footage of members of Michael Jackson’s entourage, including his PA and security guards, giving their testimony at the trial of the singer’s former doctor Conrad Murray last week. Harrowing wasn’t it? After another week of that, I reckon we’re all going to want to go to Cardiff and watch a big Michael Jackson tribute concert to take our minds off it. With Black Eyed Peas and Craig David on the bill, what could be better?

03: Eddy TM’s new club night. Eddy Temple-Morris announced via his CMU column two weeks ago that he would be taking up residency at the new Get Loaded night in the relaunched Electric club in Brixton (formerly known as The Fridge). The launch night will take place this Friday, with Shake Aletti, Dan Le Sac, Foamo, and Eddy himself all on the bill.

04: New releases. Modular launches its new singles club, Club Mod, today with the release of ‘Osaka’ by Norwegian post-rockers 120 Days, which is exciting. Also exciting is the release of Emika’s debut album, which I’ve been waiting for eagerly for about two years now. There’s also the new album from DJ Shadow, which is also mighty exciting, and ‘Rising Doom’ by Mondkopf, which is fast becoming one of my favourite albums of the year. As well as those, there are new albums from Sondre Lerche, who I interviewed last week, Feist, dEUS, Modeselektor, We Were Promised Jetpacks and Erasure, plus MGMT’s ‘LateNightTales’ compilation.

05: Gigs. Currently in the middle of a run of shows, the folks behind Noise Of Art have two more coming up this week. On Thursday they’ll be at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich with a show themed on the Eastern trade routes’ effect on London culture and featuring a mix of art and dance music, while on Friday Justin Robertson will be headlining a night at The Star Of Kings in Kings Cross. This week there’ll also be one-off London shows from Emika and Sondre Lerche, and the first of two by Iron & Wine. Plus these folks are all touring the UK: Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Nero, Enter Shikari, Plaid, SBTRKT, Gruff Rhys, Bastille, and Submotion Orchestra.

And as I say every week, do please check out the latest edition of the CMU podcast. This time, Chris and I discussed the Conrad Murray trial, Spotify’s hook-up with Facebook, Bloc Party’s confusion over who and what they are, Korn’s dubstep album, and Rihanna’s pants. We also talked a fair bit about Ed Miliband, though I’m still not sure why. It seemed funny at the time. And, er, it still is. Am I selling this to you? Listen to it you bastards!
