Aretha Franklin cancels two shows due to ill health
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 14 May 2013
Aretha Franklin has cancelled a couple of live appearances due to ill health. The two American shows have been canned based of the recommendation of the soul star’s doctors, with a statement saying the singer would be receiving “treatment during the time period the shows were scheduled”. The nature of Franklin’s ill health is not known.
The two shows were a charity event with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on 20 May and a concert at the Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Connecticut on 26 May. Janelle Monae will step in to Franklin’s slot at the former.
71 year old Franklin previously had to cancel a number of shows in late 2010 when she required surgery for an undisclosed health problem, though in January 2011 she declared that problem “resolved” and returned to performing.
