Freddie Gibbs has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Vienna while on tour last year. The American rapper was extradited to Austria from France in June, after being arrested in Toulouse shortly before a show earlier the same month.

According to a Vienna court spokesperson, Gibbs is accused of spiking the alleged victim’s drink. They told reporters: “He is alleged to have administered knock-out drops to a woman and then have abused her sexually while she was in a defenceless state”.

The rapper denies the charges, and has criticised the manner in which he was transferred to Austria, claiming that he would have travelled to the country to face authorities of his own accord.

A US lawyer for Gibbs told Reuters in a statement: “While Freddie Gibbs was charged with an offence today, it remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual fact that Freddie Gibbs is 100% innocent”.

If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison.
