The full line-up of stations has been announced for the all new UK-wide DAB digital radio multiplex, which is breaking with a tradition by actually going live. This, of course, is the second attempt to get a second national DAB network on air, Channel 4’s bid to do the same being aborted in 2008.

As previously reported, this attempt, going by the name Sound Digital, is being led by Bauer Radio and UTV Media, both of which have a number of stations on the new digital platform, some switching over from the existing national DAB network Digital One. The new DAB service doesn’t have quite the reach of the existing one, so those stations making the switch will lose some of their digital audience as a result.

The stations due to appear on the new network are as follows:

TalkRadio
TalkSport 2
Virgin Radio
Share Radio
Mellow Magic
Magic Chilled
Absolute 80s
Kisstory
Heat Radio
Planet Rock
Sunrise Radio
Awesome Radio
UCB2
Premier Christian Radio
Premier Praise!
Panjab Radio
Fun Kids
Jazz FM

Saying things about all this was Scott Taunton, Chief Operating Officer at UTV Media, who used these words: “Today marks a landmark moment for British broadcasting, with confirmation that the biggest expansion in radio choice for a generation is just weeks away. UTV is proud to be broadening the range of speech radio programming through the launch of TalkRadio and TalkSport 2, as well as reuniting the British public with the iconic Virgin Radio brand”.

Meanwhile, over at Bauer Media, Group Managing Director Radio Dee Ford added: “The launch of the UK’s second national DAB multiplex is a significant moment in radio’s digital development. Bauer is the UK’s leading commercial digital radio broadcaster, and the national launches of Mellow Magic and Magic Chilled, heat Radio, Kisstory, Absolute 80 and Planet Rock on the new multiplex offer exciting programming to drive consumer take-up”.
