General managers appointed for Virgin EMI
By Chris Cooke | Published on Thursday 18 April 2013
Universal Music has announced the appointment of General Managers for its new Virgin and EMI labels, Tom March and Clive Cawley respectively.
As previously reported, Virgin EMI is a new division of Universal UK, combining what was Mercury UK with the Virgin Records business the mega-major acquired from EMI last year. The new unit, being led by Ted Cockle, will have two teams, the Virgin team being led by March and the EMI team by Cawley. The former previously worked with Cockle when he was Co-President of another Universal division, Island Records, while the latter was previously MD of Mercury Records.
Confirming the recruitment of March into the Virgin EMI division, Cockle told CMU: “I first met Tom when he was doing PR and even back then his creativity stood out a mile. He has turned into one of the most consistently inventive marketers in the business, who is never more comfortable than when he is working closely with artists, and there was no question I wanted him on the team at Virgin EMI”.
