Rounding up the latest gig news…

R&B’s reigning alien queen Janelle Monáe (pictured), still celebrating her 2013 LP ‘The Electric Lady’, has this week set an English trek in early May. It’s fairly mini, featuring only three shows at Manchester’s Academy 1 (7 May), the Birmingham Institute (8 May), and London’s Brixton Academy (9 May). Tickets will be available Friday at the earliest.

Oh, and another thing. The Pharrell Williams show is rolling into town thanks to MasterCard’s band of one-off Priceless Gigs. Joining Kylie and Laura Mvula on this year’s BRITs-preceding Priceless listings, Skateboard P will play his ‘Happy’ hits at an ‘intimate’ spot in London, whose date and location will come to light as soon or as non-soon as MasterCard wish it. Tickets to see Pharrell et al are free to winners of this competition.

And now. “The horses have bolted the stable”, announced hardy alt-rock colts Pulled Apart By Horses on Monday, talking about an ‘album warm-up tour’ starting on 24 Apr at the Tunnels in Aberdeen. The band say of the forthcoming road trip, which comprises 19 shows in all, and stops last at Cardiff’s The Globe on 15 May: “After spending most of 2013 writing the new album, we are now so close to finishing it that we can’t wait a moment longer to get sweaty with you guys. So we’re excited to announce an intimate little UK warm-up tour. Think of it as some much needed exercise”.
