I think you all know that we’re mainly of the opinion that there are far too many award events in this here business of music, though if GRM Daily says there is still a gap for a bash specifically celebrating the best British urban talent, who the hell are we to argue?

And so here come the Rated Awards, presented by GRM Daily and soft drink brand KA. Says GRM Daily Co-Founder Matt Thorne: “We believe artists in the scene deserve to be recognised amongst their peers. The genre is massively underrepresented, people like to associate with the genre for credibility but no one has taken the punt on representing it properly. It’s time for a real credible award for our culture”.

Nominations will be announced next week and then readers of the urban music website will be invited to get busy voting. The awards will be dished out at the Clapham Grand on 17 Sep where the likes of Kano and Ghetts will perform.

And if you were expecting a quote from a marketing rep at KA makers AG Barr, well, look, here it is. Adrian Troy says: “As a brand we have supported many grass roots artists to break onto the scene, providing a platform for new music and a step up in terms of visibility. This year we wanted to expand our involvement, supporting the scene as a whole and rewarding and recognising established talent on a national scale. We felt there was a space for a credible and authentic event recognising the high quality established talent within the genre”.
