Hackney Picturehouse hosting inaugural music film showcase, Doc N Roll

The first ever Doc N Roll Festival, a slideshow of rock-themed film screenings of a documentary-like ilk, is taking place at London’s Hackney Picturehouse on 25-28 Sep, so… stand by.
Confirmed to show over the four-day programme (so far) are films like new release ‘Looking For Johnny’, which looks at the life of late New York Dolls/Heartbreakers guitarist Johnny Thunders, who died in 1991 aged 38.
Also on the listings is a strand glancing back over the work of Brit director Julien Temple, featuring screenings of his films ‘Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten’; ‘London: The Modern Babylon’, an all-star chronicle of 100 years of cultural upheaval in the capital; and Dr Feelgood story ‘Oil City Confidential’, which will be followed by a Q&A with Temple, and a preview of his forthcoming film on one-time Dr Feelgood-doer Wilko Johnson.
Tying off this initial phase of the festival’s listings (which will be finalised in early September) is the London premiere of ‘A Band Called Death’ Mark Christopher Covino and Jeff Howlet’s doc on 1970s rock trio Death, who are oft-hailed as the first black punk band.
