Ian Rogers has confirmed that he’s not only leaving the Apple conclave, but also the entire digital music business. When news broke of his surprise departure from Apple last week, rumour had it he was going to a non-music company, and now we know he is set to become Chief Digital Officer at LVMH, a firm that owns a stack of luxury brands like Moët & Chandon, Christian Dior and TAG Heuer, as well as culture website Nowness.

Rogers, who enjoyed a high profile in the music industry while running direct-to-fan company TopSpin, joined Apple last year, of course, when it bought Beats, where he was CEO of the headphone maker’s streaming set-up. He subsequently oversaw the launch of the Beats 1 radio station, arguably the most hyped portion of the Apple Music service.

Asked why he had chosen to leave the music industry, Rogers told the New York Times: “I asked my wife the night of the Apple Music announcement – was that the starting gun or the finish line for me in the digital music race? I decided I’m ready for a new challenge both professionally and personally. I have more to learn and contribute”.
