IFPI makes Rube Goldberg Machine, videos it

Just ask Guinness, OK Go and Roy Castle, everyone loves a domino-topple, even if these days it’s fashionable to topple everything but actual dominos.

And with that in mind, the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry has made a domino-free (there’s not even any Fats Domino in the soundtrack) recorded-music-celebrating domino-topple type video that takes you from gramophone to the iPad in 90 seconds, the message being: the record industry may be falling over, but isn’t it fun to watch? Actually, that might not be the message.

Technically, the IFPI is claiming to have built a ‘Rube Goldberg machine’ rather than a domino rally, but those toppling records sure look like wannabe dominos to me. Perhaps the NME could make a version of this for their upcoming awards show that includes some pizza boxes being toppled over, from recently announced awards co-sponsor Dominos. Which is a terrible idea, but look, I snuck that extra little news story in while you weren’t looking.

Anyway, check out the IFPI’s rather nifty ‘Music Remains’ video below. Or just join in with this live version of the ‘Record Breakers’ theme tune if you’d prefer.
