Independent publisher Imagem Music has re-signed Billy Ocean to a new worldwide publishing deal.

Ocean was originally signed in 1983 to the publishing company owned by Clive Calder’s Zomba business, which was later acquired by BMG. Imagem itself was created in 2008 by the acquisition of a number of the catalogues formerly owned by the original BMG music publishing company – including the Zomba songs catalogue – which Universal Music had been forced to sell on by European regulators to get approval for its BMG Music Publishing takeover.

Confirming Ocean had renewed his publishing partnership with Imagem, the company’s UK MD Kim Frankiewicz told CMU: “Billy is a seminal artist. His work has stood the test of time and his contribution to the global R&B scene has been significant to say the least. We’re delighted that Billy has re-signed, and here’s to the next 30 years!”

Meanwhile Ocean’s manager John Arnison added: “Imagem/Zomba have looked after and helped create an ongoing legacy to Billy’s work for more than quarter of a century. Their enthusiasm and creativity is second to none. We are very much looking forward to the next chapter working with Kim and her team”.
