Gathering Of The Juggalos

At the tail end of last week, Insane Clown Posse announced initial details of their fifteenth annual Gathering Of The Juggalos festival. One of the details was that the event has moved to a new site, shifting from the Hogrock Campground in Illinois to the CryBaby Campground in the neighbouring state of Missouri.

An exact reason for the move has not been given, but aside from the dubious reputation the event has built up over the last seven years at its former site, last year’s festival hit financial difficulties that pushed it towards the verge of bankruptcy. As previously reported, GOTJ racked up unpaid debts of around $300,000 after “expenses exceeded estimates and expectations”.

There’s no mention of all that, though, in the statement from ICP label Psychopathic Records’ spokesperson Jason ‘J-Webb’ Webber. He simply talked up the benefits of the new venue, saying: “Juggalos, this place is the SHIT! I’m serious. It’s got the same level of intimacy that we enjoyed at Hog Rock for all those years but this campground also has plenty of flavor that Hog Rock didn’t have, including CELL PHONE RECEPTION! NEARBY HOTELS! NEARBY STORES! ACTUAL FUCKING CIVILIZATION!”

Local sheriff Bill Abbott isn’t quite so excited about the new event on his patch, telling the Kansas City Star that he’s heard that Juggalos “do a lot of drugs, fighting [and] stealing”. He added: “If you’re looking for trouble, you’ll find trouble. We don’t want no trouble here whatsoever, and I’m sure they don’t either. We want them to obey the laws and have a good time. I’d like to meet the main man [organizing the festival] and talk to him”.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Just, whatever you do, don’t call the Juggalos a gang.
