Chirpy ray of sunshine Jake Bugg has brought yet more light into the world in a new interview with the BBC.

Asked about the possibility of his latest album, ‘On My One’, going to number one in the charts, he said: “Anyone can get a number one now. You only have to sell, like, 20,000 albums or something. If you speak to another band and you say, ‘Oh, I had a number one album’, they’ll be like, ‘Yeah, so did we, and John had one last week as well’. It’s not really an achievement anymore. You know, the charts are the charts. I can’t really get excited about anything I see in them”.

It must be exhausting being that giddy with all the fun and joy running through your veins all day long. And well done to John for getting that number one album. We were all rooting for you.

Bugg, whose second album ‘Shangri-La’ peaked at number three, added that his new long player is a “make or break” release, saying: “This is a pretty brutal industry. If your record sales aren’t great, you might not get the chance to make another one”.

And then, having given such a conclusive view on the state of the record industry, Jake Bugg skipped off towards the horizon, laughing and singing all the way.
