Job ad: AMG, O2 Ritz Manchester – General Manager (Manchester)

O2 Ritz Manchester is a historic Grade II listed building located in the heart of the City Centre. The venue is well established on the international touring circuit is one of the best loved and most successful live music venues in the UK and has been one of the cornerstones of the thriving Manchester and wider North West music scene for almost a century.

The venue hosts a plethora of events, from up and coming bands first major tours to club night to hosting established festival headliners playing one off special shows.

A rare and unique opportunity has arisen for the General Manager position at the venue and as such we are looking for a highly capable, experienced and knowledge individual to take on the management of the venue. The ideal candidate should have experience of managing a major live music venue and be familiar with all aspects of venue management.

Responsibilities

General

• To manage the Venue both efficiently and effectively ensuring that the diary is commercially maximised and all statutory duties are discharged.
• The importance of the O2 partnership in the venue is vital to the Company and must be respected and treated in a professional, positive and helpful manner at all times.  This to be communicated to all staff in the venue

Specific

Strategy & Business Direction (Group)
• To contribute to the effective running of the business.
• To help evaluate potential new business opportunities.
• To contribute to planning and future strategy as required.

Planning and Control (Unit)
• Ensure all systems are maintained
• Ensure all statutory (including licensing) requirements are discharged, conforming to all Health & Safety procedures including any new legislation
• To act as DPS to the venue
• Liaise in setting budgets
• To maximise the events diary and assist in expanding the commercial viability of the venue
• Continually review systems for suitability and potential upgrading
• Ensure that budget reports (show) are compiled and disseminated within 48 hours (where possible) of event completion
• Ensure monthly forecasts are completed on time and accurately reflect current and future diary activity

Staff Management
• Ensure Department Heads work as a team and all departments are staffed within budget
• Ensure that all staff are trained as required and where possible plan for adequate succession management
• Ensure that annual appraisals and staff files are maintained for all full time staff
• Ensure that all staff within your control are managed to the standards as laid out in their job descriptions

General
• Liaise with the accounts function and stock takers where appropriate
• Carry out ad hoc duties as required from time to time and any other duties that are deemed reasonable
• Ensure a smooth flow of information both internally and externally
• Represent the company as required at functions and events ensuring that topics and agendas are reported
• Liaise with all sub-contracted staff and groups to ensure the venue and AMG receive best practice and service

Accountability

The effectiveness of the position will be measured by:

• Achievement of operational profitability and targets
• Level of staff performance, motivation and morale within the venue
• Succession planning and development of staff
• Commercial expansion of venue diary
• Statutory matters (including licensing) being effectively discharged

Requirements

• Personal Licence holder
• Live and club music venue management
• Diary management
• Marketing and promotion of events and club nights
• Knowledge of the local market
• Line management of staff and contractors
• Administration and familiar with Excel and Office
• Finance and cash handling
• General understanding of the technical requirements of live and club events
• Knowledge of stocktaking procedures
• Understanding of H&S, risk assessment and licensing issues for events
• Experience of working with event promoters both local and nationally
• Good communicator
• Ability to work to deadlines
• Attention to detail
• Ability to manage situations with tact and diplomacy
• Can identify problems and develop solutions
• Enthusiastic about live music and clubs
• Shows confidence in dealing with wide ranging types of situations
• Able to work flexible and unsocial hours including evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve
