Katy Perry hasn’t recorded a Taylor Swift diss track
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 10 June 2015
Katy Perry hasn’t recorded a response to Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’. Sorry to spoil your day.
Although Swift has never explicitly said so, ‘Bad Blood’ is generally thought to be about a beef she has with Perry. And because all female popstars have to be assumed to be involved in some sort of feud or other at all times, rumours of a response track have been floating around for months.
Previously it was claimed that Perry would perform a song hitting back at Swift during her Super Bowl half time performance. Then someone found a song registered with BMI in the US called ‘1984’, apparently recorded by Perry. ‘1984’, I’m sure you’ve noticed, is very similar to the title of the album from which ‘Bad Blood’ is taken, ‘1989’.
However, Universal has said that Perry has no knowledge of the song, telling Billboard: “Katy Perry’s managers at Direct Management Group confirm that this story is completely false. Katy Perry was not involved in writing, singing, recording or registering this song”.
The song, whose co-writers include former Perry collaborators Dallas Austin and Andreas Carlsson, was apparently registered by BMG in September last year, which would pre-date the incident TMZ claims Swift and Perry fell out over.
