Kickstarter to launch in UK this month
By CMU Editorial | Published on Thursday 11 October 2012
Kickstarter has confirmed that it will go live in the UK from 31 Oct, and creatives or entrepreneurs looking for financial support for new projects can register with the service now. Previously non-US based individuals wanting to use the crowd-sourcing website needed a partner or company based in America, but now UK-based people can use the service without that extra hassle.
Kickstarter, of course, is not specifically set up for music-based projects, unlike other crowd-sourcing/pre-sale platforms such as Pledge Music, though it has been used by a lot of music-types in the US, not least Amanda Palmer who raised the $1.2 million to finance her current album and tour via the service. Plans to launch Kickstarter properly in the UK were first announced in July.
