Kobalt takes control of B-52s catalogue
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 16 April 2013
Kobalt has acquired the publishing catalogue of US band The B-52s, including such classics as ‘Rock Lobster’ and ‘Love Shack’, or, as I like to think of it, great, timeless music that everyone loves. The acquisition is part of Kobalt’s previously reported new bid to become a more prolific owner of copyrights in its own right, as well as providing administration services for other rights owners.
Announcing the deal yesterday the band said: “We are very excited about our new relationship with Kobalt and believe this is the right home for the caretaking of our catalogue and the continued promotion and exposure of our music to new generations of fans around the world”.
Meanwhile Kobalt CEO Willard Ahdritz added: “It’s great, timeless music that everyone loves”.
Hey, Williard, that’s what I said.
