Album Review: Krafty Kuts – Against The Grain (Against The Grain)

Krafty Kuts

I saw Krafty Kuts DJing at Glastonbury about six years ago. It was the middle of the afternoon in the dance tent (I think there was still only one back then) and, despite the fact we’d only gone in there to escape the rain, it was great.

Kings of Leon were the NME’s band of the weekend that year, playing the New Tent, as it was then. I’m not suggesting Mr Kuts has now reached similar heights; clearly he is not dance music’s equivalent – who would that be? David Guetta, or someone. But while the Kings backlash must surely be well overdue by now, Krafty here is going from strength to strength.

This double mix CD contains one disc of previously unreleased “re-rubs” of tracks by the likes of Plump DJs, Pendulum, Stanton Warriors, Freestylers, and Deekline & Wizard, which Krafty has been DJing with this year.

For the second disc, he plunders the archive of his Against The Grain label to create a party-friendly compilation of his favourite tunes from over the last decade. So, we have Freestylers’ ‘Push Up’ sounding rather better than I remember, alongside several Ed Solo & School Of Thought tracks, which always sound great and even better in this mix. It doesn’t really let up so ideal for one of those house parties you will no doubt be throwing during the impending festive season. IM
