Single Review: Kylie – Get Outta My Way (EMI/Parlophone)

By | Published on Thursday 23 September 2010

Kylie Minogue

‘Get Outta My Way’ showcases all that’s great about Kylie: camp, cheese, a good beat, and the kind of lyrical simplicity that lends itself perfectly to hen parties, pub singalongs and singing into the mirror clutching a hairbrush.

This is no bad thing. Ms Minogue’s brand of energetic bubblegum-pop is a gold standard for mainstream chart success for a reason. After the slightly disappointing lead single from album ‘Aphrodite’, ‘All The Lovers’, the glittering synthy sound of ‘Get Outta My Way’ firmly hands the Princess Of Pop tiara back to Kylie.

The track’s premise is that Kylie-as-protagonist wants to “Leave you, move on, to a perfect stranger/You talk, I’ll walk, wanna feel the danger”. She basically wants a good seeing to – and not from her ‘boring’ incumbent lover. Reaching out to bored men and women the world-over, a new ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ is born. EG
