Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has been placed on suicide watch as he awaits trial for child abuse offences, it was revealed at a court hearing this week.

As previously reported, Watkins and two women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, face trial for charges including raping a one year old child, plus making and distributing images of child abuse. Their trial is due to begin on 25 Nov, this latest court appearance being a routine case management hearing.

According to WalesOnline, Watkins’ barrister Sally O’Neill told the court: “He has been seen by a clinical psychologist and she believes he should be receiving anti-psychotic medication. She wants him to be taken to a secure hospital for assessment and treatment. He is on suicide watch five times an hour”.

While Watkins and one of the women deny the charges against them, WalesOnline reports that the third woman, the youngest of the three at 20 years old, has admitted to distributing indecent images of and inappropriately touching a child.

All three remain in custody, with the hearing adjourned until 14 Oct.
