Matthew Herbert announces second One

Matthew Herbert has announced that he will release the second part of his ‘One’ trilogy of albums on 20 Sep via his own Accidental Records.

Entitled ‘One Club’, the album was created entirely from sounds recorded in one night at the Robert Johnson nightclub in Frankfurt, with microphones rigged up all across the building, from the cloakroom to the DJ booth to the toilets. Each track is named after a person present that evening.

Herbert explains: “For a long time now, clubs have accepted a corporate version of reality, with excessive branding and sponsorship, yet reluctant to acknowledge the potential political or social power implicit in large numbers of people gathering in public places. The ‘One Club’ project is intended to offer an alternative version of that relationship between the audience, the building, the locality, the political, the performer and the music”.

As previously reported, the first record in the series, ‘One One’, was created using over 2000 samples created by around 350 people on a single day in various cities around the world. The final part, ‘One Pig’, documents the life of a pig from birth to death and beyond, and is made up entirely of recordings made of the various stages of the pig’s existence.
