Job ad: The Wire – Advertising Sales & Marketing (London)

The Wire is looking to recruit a full time advertising sales & marketing person. The job will involve working as part of a three strong team selling advertising space in the monthly print edition of The Wire, and on thewire.co.uk, and in its editorial newsletters. The kind of organisations and individuals you will be dealing with will include musicians, record labels, distributors, shops, online retailers, festivals, venues, promoters, etc involved in the kind of music cultures covered by The Wire.

The job is full time, and based at The Wire office in Hackney Central, London E9. Our standard office hours are Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm. The workload varies throughout the month, requiring some flexibility regarding hours worked in any particular week.

Essential requirements

• Good administrative skills
• Good problem-solving skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• To be able to work both independently and as part of a team
• To be able to work to set deadlines
• A familiarity with The Wire and an empathy with the kind of music it covers

Desirable qualities

• Previous experience in a similar role
• Previous experience in sales
• Previous experience in online marketing and promotion
• A familiarity with print production processes
• A familiarity with the music industry

Desirable skills

• Experience of using online marketing tools such as Mailchimp, Google Ads, Double Click, etc
• Experience of using Google analytics
• Experience of using accounts software such as Sage
• Experience of using design applications such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
• Experience of using Google docs and Excel spreadsheet software

Main duties

• Researching and contacting advertising clients and maintaining active databases of current and past advertisers and potential future advertising clients
• Negotiating deals, prices and positions with advertisers
• Replying to any general advertising enquiries
• Maintaining databases of current advertising bookings
• Raising client invoices and managing client accounts including bad debtors
• Receiving and checking artwork from advertisers
• Overseeing and checking the layout of advertising pages in the print magazine
• Uploading banner and MPU adverts on thewire.co.uk and in the editorial newsletters
• Compiling and editing newsletters containing information on forthcoming contents of the print magazine and thewire.co.uk
• Assisting in compiling The Wire Tapper cover mount CDs
• Co-ordinating with the editorial and subscriptions and circulation teams to formulate marketing strategies and campaigns to promote The Wire and its various activities and projects

The position will also involve sundry other duties as reasonably required to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of The Wire and its various activities, so a degree of flexibility with regard to the job is essential.
