Sound Diplomacy

A new company offering consultancy services on music export, founded by Shain Shapiro, UK rep for the Canadian Independent Music Association, and the former UK head of Catalan Arts Jordi Puy, officially launches today.

Called Sound Diplomacy, the company has offices in London and Barcelona, and launches with clients including CIMA, HootSuite, ICEC and Osheaga MEG Pro.

Advisors to the company include Spotify’s Will Page, The Orchard’s Scott Cohen and Damon Forbes of Sheer Music, while further insights will come from Shapiro’s own research – he is currently completing work on a PhD thesis entitled ‘The History Of Popular Music Funding In Canada’.

Shapiro told CMU: “It’s an exciting time for Jordi and I. With his experience working with the Catalans and mine with the Canadians, we’re hoping to build this into a modern consultancy focused on export research, coordination and intelligence. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with our existing clients while building the business in both Dalston and Barcelona”.

Celebrating the official unveiling of Sound Diplomacy, the company is holding a launch party at the Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston tonight, with performances from Lab Coast, Foam Lake and Theo Bard. For more info the free event, go here.
