New shuffle – smaller and chatter

Apple have revealed the latest version of their economy line iPod shuffle, and it’s got even smaller. Soon these things won’t be visible to the human eye.

The other innovation with the new version of Apple’s flash-memory-based player is that it talks. That is to say it will announce each song as it starts to play, utilising the meta data stuck to a track. I should note that service is optional, given that it’s the sort of thing that will probably get very irritating very quickly.

That said, if only Apple could work out how to make the Shuffle announce the time and occasional travel updates as well, the device could replace pretty much every daytime DJ in commercial radio.
