Nick Cave collaborates on skateboard design
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 7 January 2015
What do you get for the man who has everything? A skateboard, apparently. Nick Cave has a skateboard now. And everything else, if the premise of this opening paragraph is to be believed. I’m not convinced, personally.
Anyway, that Nick Cave guy – the one from that film – has teamed up with Australian skateboard company Fast Times and American artist Chuck Sperry to create a new skateboard design. A ‘deck’, if you will. Which you will, because that’s what it’s called.
This particular deck is inspired by the song ‘Nature Boy’, from him and The Bad Seeds’ 2004 album ‘Abattoir Blues’. This song, it was mutually agreed by Cave and Fast Times, “best suited the Melbourne Skate Scene and vibe of Fast Times”. These are things that Cave would be well aware of because he is apparently a “regular visitor” to the company’s Melbourne store.
The theme is visualised with a painting of “one of Chuck’s dames” who appears “tangled in her long golden locks wrapped in a psychedelic bed of flowers”. There are some lyrics from ‘Nature Boy’ slapped on it too, just so you know what’s going on.
Take a look at the finished product here. And if you don’t fancy forking out for a bit of wood that you’ll never use, there’s also a t-shirt.
Now, imagine if we could finish this with a video of some people doing skateboarding tricks to a soundtrack of ‘Nature Boy’. And now cease to imagine, because that very dream is a reality:
