Ninja Tune sign Toddla T
By CMU Editorial | Published on Tuesday 20 April 2010
Ninja Tune announced yesterday that they have signed up Toddla T for a three album deal, while sister company Just Isn’t Music will take control of his publishing. The indie will also assist with distribution, manufacture and marketing for the producer’s own label, Girls Music.
With a style that spans various urban and dance genres, Toddla T is also highly in demand as a DJ, and regularly features in Radio 1’s In New DJs We Trust slot. He has also produced the likes of Tinchy Stryder, Bashy and Jammer, and has collaborated with artists including Hervé, Ross Orton, Diplo and Switch. Toddla’s second album, the follow-up to last year’s ‘Skanky Skanky’, which was released through Sony Music/1965, is now expected to be released by Ninja later this year.
He told CMU: “I’m so happy with signing with Ninja. Not only have they got a ridiculously good background but they’re such good people and so enthused by me joining. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the next album with them as well as working on my Girls Music label alongside them. Dutty!”
Ninja boss Peter Quicke added: “We’re delighted to have added Toddla to our roster. As we approach our 20th anniversary, it’s great to find someone who was four when we started out and yet who shares our original ethos while updating it and making it new again”.
