Plan B

Sticking with its music sponsorship strategy, O2 will celebrate the launch of its 4G network at the end of the month with a big Plan B gig at the O2-branded Shepherd’s Bush Empire in West London. The gig, on 29 Aug, will also be live-streamed to screens at Kings Cross and Victoria stations, and in the Westfield shopping centre, also in Shepherd’s Bush.

The phone firm will be demoing its 4G gubbins at those spaces during the day too, and will have buskers playing songs to demand on special stages, with requests taken via Twitter.

Presumably keen to tick as many social media boxes as possible, the Plan B gig will also be streamed to the O2 Academy YouTube channel, while Eventstagram will distribute photos taken by gig-goers and Soundhalo will record the show and make a download available immediately.

Which sounds like an awful lot of technology that could go wrong. But don’t worry – they’ve got a Plan B.

Says O2’s Head Of Brand Shadi Halliwell: “We want to inspire customers by showcasing the exciting possibilities provided by 4G, and what better way to do this than by live streaming an exclusive gig across London. By bringing to life brilliant entertainment on the move, we hope to encourage customers to explore technology and to live more, do more and be more with O2”.
