The UK music publishing sector’s trade body MPA has announced that Sarah Osborn, the organisation’s General Manager since April last year, will become its new CEO with immediate effect. She takes over from Stephen Navin, who announced he was exiting earlier this year, formally standing down at the trade group’s AGM in June.

Osborn, who spent eight years at publisher Schott Music before joining the MPA, told CMU yesterday: “I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation, particularly at such a crucial time for the MPA and for music publishing as a whole. Our challenge as a trade association is to remain relevant to our members’ interests, to enable members to do more and better business, to ensure that music publishers receive the support they need from policy makers in order to maintain their contribution to the UK economy, and to promote a better understanding of the business of music publishing and the importance of copyright”.

Meanwhile the MPA’s Chairman Chris Butler added: “The MPA Board is delighted to have appointed Sarah as Chief Executive. Her thorough understanding of the music publishing industry, proven commitment to the MPA and its members, and strategic vision for the organisation meant that she was the outstanding candidate. The Board looks forward to working with her to ensure that the MPA becomes even more vital to the interests of each and every one of its members”.
