Plácido Domingo has left hospital in Madrid after being treated for a blood clot on one of his lungs. As previously reported, the opera singer and IFPI Chairman was admitted to hospital last week, forcing him to miss a string of July performances in Daniel Catán’s opera ‘Il Postino’. He is now expected to begin performing again next month.

According to the BBC, Domingo said of his quick diagnosis after falling ill during a rehearsal and subsequent treatment: “I thought I would return from the check-up straight away back to the rehearsal. But I was told, ‘No, there is something serious here'”.

Domingo’s doctor said that the quick diagnosis and treatment of deep vein thrombosis had ensured a quick recovery. The clot, he said, formed in the singer’s right leg and then moved up to his lung, where it had become lodged in an artery, requiring surgery. “It sounds catastrophic, but it didn’t turn out like that”, the doctor explained. “We established an early diagnosis, and there should be a good recovery, a complete and full recovery”.
