Andrew Wyatt

Andrew Wyatt, one third of Sweden’s Miike Snow, released his debut solo album, entitled ‘Descender’, this week. Featuring guest artists like ex-Interpol bass player Brad Truax, ex-Libertines/Dirty Pretty Things guitarist Anthony Rossomando, Tortoise drummer John Herndon and Prague’s Philharmonic Orchestra, the LP shows a darker side to Wyatt than his work with his band.

With the album out, we asked Wyatt to put together a playlist for us, of which he said: “I tend to start almost all songs off as free associations, I suppose this is a riff on what I’m listening to now; and as I was making it I twisted and turned as one song made me think of another. A psychedelic theme sort of occurred”.

Subscribe to this playlist on Spotify, and then read on to find out more about Andrew’s choices.

01 Durutti Column – My Country
Most listened to song by me in last month. Don’t know your politics though…

02 Beady Eye – Flick Of The Finger
Incredible job by Dave Sitek. I wish Oasis records sounded this great.

03 The Knife – A Tooth For An Eye
Best new electronic music since, well, the last Knife album. EVERYBODY sweats this shit like when Coltrane switched his style up. OK maybe not quite that heavy but close.

04 Ballet School – All Things Return At Night
Very cool, with unexpected turns of melody in its composition that remind me most of Orange Juice – heard about it through Grimes the Tartaragen or whatever medieval trope she’s on.

05 Edwyn Collins – Dilemma
Incredible. Some people call their shit bands “The Bravery” and some people have the bravery.

06 Robert Wyatt – At Last I Am Free
Had to shout out the family name. Also on the topic of comeback kids… he’s a fucking don.

07 The Monkees – The Girl I Knew Somewhere
I guess The Monkees will never be that cool but their songwriters were cool.

08 Led Zeppelin – That’s The Way
The only Zeppelin album I never owned was ‘Zeppelin III’ and I’m glad because there is still some heavenly genius to drink in.

09 Billy Boys – Get It On
A Finnish out there rendition of T Rex you should all hear.

10 Andrew Wyatt – Harlem Boyzz
As if I was NOT going to put my own song in this playlist!
