Singer-songwriter Josh Kumra releases his debut long player ‘Good Things Come To Those Who Don’t Wait’ next week through Sony/RCA.
Despite that title, Josh’s Wretch 32-featuring debut single, ‘Don’t Go’, hit number one in the UK singles chart back in the summer of 2011 and we’ve been waiting for the album ever since. Though since then he’s toured heavily, and spent time crafting songs for the album with artists including Fink, Emeli Sandé, Naughty Boy and Mr Hudson.
With new single ‘The Answer’ out this week, and head of the album and a special (still to be announced) launch show on 24 Apr, we asked Josh to put together a playlist for us. Here’s what he told us about his choices: “I am a big fan of emotional songs and I feel that all these artists have something special. They can make you cry when you feel happy and make you happy when you feel like crying. All of these songs have inspired me in one way or another and in turn have shaped me into the artist I am”.

01 Ray LaMontagne – Burn
The most powerful songs for me are the ones that are full with emotion. Ray Lamontagne certainly doesn’t hold back the emotion in this song, which makes it very honest.
02 Gary Clarke Jr – The Life
I love the way Gary Clarke Jr fuses blues and pop together in this song, he’s a class act and this is one of my favourites.
03 Starsailor – Alcoholic
I grew up listening to this song, and it was the first ever song I learnt to play, so it brings back strong memories.
04 Ryan Adams – I Taught Myself How To Grow Old
This is my favourite song from Ryan Adams, the reason why is because of how it’s written, it has a beautiful melody, beautiful lyrics and is full of emotion!
05 The Black Keys – So He Won’t Break
The Black Keys are one of my favourite bands at the moment, I love the simplicity of this song as well as the dirty blues production.
06 Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah
I love songs that can only be sung by one artist and no one can sing this as good as Jeff Buckley, it’s beautiful.
07 Tracy Chapman – Across The Lines
I love the emotion in her voice. It’s so powerful that you can understand the story without even listening to the actual lyrics
08 Fat Freddy’s Drop – Wandering Eye
This has been my tour song for the last couple of weeks, it’s 10 minutes long but it keeps you from the very first note to the last
09 Lianne La Havas – Elusive
Lianne is one of my favourite artists right now, her voice is beautiful and so is she.
10 John Martyn – Bless The Weather
This guy has a bucket load of passion and he lets it out on every track. He doesn’t hold back with the lyrics and makes the most of every song.
