Primary Wave Music last week announced a partnership with fellow American independent Elm City Music which will see the former administrate the publishing rights of the latter, including works from the indie’s current and future artists. The alliance was confirmed by Elm City founder Michael Caplan and Primary Wave Music Publishing President Justin Shukat.

Shukat told reporters: “Michael and I worked together for years while he was at Sony and I’m excited to have his ear for talent as part of the Primary Wave team. He is a true A&R man and very few exist in this business anymore”.

Caplan added: “It’s refreshing to see a team like Primary Wave, who think so large and don’t wait for the opportunity to come to them. They have always approached publishing with an unfettered naked aggression. They not only land syncs consistently for their publishing roster, but also market their catalogues in ways that other music publishers don’t”.

The new partnership follows Primary Wave’s recent strategic alliance with BMG, which saw the Bertelsmann-owed music rights business take a stake in its new ally’s publishing catalogue, as well as launching a new US-based artist services venture.
